American artist Raimundo Figueroa (b. 1957) possesses a rich background in painting and violin playing. Figueroa received his initial training in music at the prestigious Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico under the leadership of the renown cellist and conductor Pablo Casals. He received the Gold Medal from the Puerto Rico Institute of Culture in 1972 and the Honorary Medal at the Mexico Biennial in 1986. Figueroa continued his studies in esteemed establishments like the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland; the University of Cincinnati in Ohio; the Manhattan School of Music in New York; and the University of California (UCLA) in Los Angeles.
Raimundo Figueroa has participated in numerous exhibitions and biennials throughout the course of his more than 40-year art career, including those in Mexico, São Paolo, Chile, Florence, and Tokyo, among others. His works are part of important private collections as well as many international public collections, such as São Paulo Museum of Art, Brazil; Museo de Arte Moderno, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Museo Rufino Tamayo, Mexico City, Mexico; Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM), Mexico City, Mexico; Museo de la Ciudad de Madrid, Spain; Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, Argentina; UBS Bank, Chase Manhattan Bank; Bacardi Corporation; Citibank; among others. -
